This was done around 2008 or 2009 so you can pretty much ignore the prices.

The tire specs are just what's available online if you do some digging.  Position is where I saw the tires being used by other schools, or where I was looking at using them.  Tire profile is just an arbitrary term I used to describe the general profile of the tire.  Rounded is obviously fairly rounded and flat/rounded just has a more square profile.

If anyone else has info to add to this just post it here and I'll update the chart.

If you want to copy what other teams are doing, check out some pictures online and look closely at the side of the tires for markings indicating the manufacturer and size.  The Baja SAE website has links to team sites where you will usually find plenty of pictures and sometimes vehicle specifications too.

Tire selection has been discussed before on the forums, so do a search to catch up with the discussion: http://forums.bajasae.net/forum/how-to-make-the-seach-button-work-for-you_topic814.html

This year the organizers have changed the engine from Lombardini to B&S Model 20. As Virtual BAJA, the preliminary round for BAJA, is within 3 weeks, we are in need of a cad model of B&S. If any one provide us with one we would be really thankful.

What does this have to do with tire selection?

What is the significance of ply rating . i.e what is different to use 2 ply instead of 4 ply ? Is there any difference in performance ?

The number of plies in your tyre majorly affects the tyre life (in addition to several other factors). A tyre with more plies is less prone to failure to any sharp obstacles in the terrain and also provides greater strength and stiffness to your tyre.
