I am working on Frame design and stucked to a rule regarding side impact
member (SIM), B8.3.5 (page 23).

The following clarifications are to be made:

1) Can side impact member(SIM) be made of multiple pieces welded together?
As I cannot find directly from the rules is if the SIM must be continuous
with no welds between points S and SF.

2) Also height of SIM from seat bottom must be between 8"-14", but how long
it is to be maintained moving from point S to SF?

Looking Forward for your valuable reply.
Thank you

tHE RULE STATES THAT: The SIM members must be between 203 mm (8in.) and 356 mm (14 in.) above the inside seat bottom

it's clearly mentioned that it is not along the entire length. Just at the position where the templeta is kept for checking various clearances

like to draw attention over the dimensioning of sim height. I conclude that SIM is to lie in the Mid plane between 8 to 14 inches above the inside seat bottom.

it says about the SIM: "Hozontal" and "forward".

In Baja SAE Brasil the rules regarding this is absolutely the same, and they demand the height for all long

The pic posted above corroborate with this interpretation.

The picture also shows height being checked only at seat bottom and not throughout

Incorrect, It's pointing to the center of the bent far away from the seat botton.

Pedro is correct. However, if you insist on not listening to him, feel free to build your car without following his interpretation and see what the technical inspectors think about that.

It would be a big blunder,I prefer asking authorities about it,n not taking any risks.
