Hi. I'm currently head of brakes department of our team and I have seen many teams manuver and making donuts easily. I was wondering if they use brakes while doing so. Also if they do which tyre is preferred to lock while doing a stiff turn or a donut. Thanks for any answers.

For our team, our newer cars have a short wheelbase and the front wheels are able to turn at extreme angles (like drift cars) in order to do what you described. For our drivers, they turn in hard while staying at full throttle. So essentially, we don't use our brakes.

Although our car from 2 years ago did have a cutter brake on it, but it never worked properly (needed a better design). And this year we are using a single, gearbox mounted brake in the rear.

Hope this helped.

As stated above, a short wheelbase car, with a good suspension setup, and a good driver will not need cutting brakes to do doughnuts. try to stiffen up the rear suspension a bit more. a lot of teams will use an ARB to achieve this, however it is not necessary
