During the upcoming Fall 2016 semester, UNLV SAE Baja wants to hold an unsanctioned race.

We would like to get as many teams and cars as possible to join us. So please spread the word! If you are an Arizona, Cali and Nevada (RENO!) team you should definitely join us.

We would really like for this to be a reoccurring yearly unsanctioned event, like many back east unsanctioned events.

We have a location picked out in the Las Vegas, Nevada desert.

We could possibly do a dusk/night race, but that would require lights on your baja.

We want to run around SEMA time, that is the 1st weekend of November (Fri, Sat or Sun). The weather will be perfect around that time (low:70's- high:80's)

We also plan on hanging out afterwards, where we will have a BBQ and various other activities (BOOM!).

We will also bring our trailer with all of our equipment to work on the cars, if you just want to haul your baja down in the back of a truck we can assist you with everything else.

If you have any further questions email me at agentil.unlvrebelracing@gmail.com

Let us know what you think,

-Adam Gentil
UNLV SAE Baja President

Event Update:

We have narrowed down our location to Sandy Valley, NV.

We want to hold the event on Veteran’s Day weekend, maybe have teams show up on Friday (November 11th) and race on Saturday (November 12th). How does this date sound?

If you come down on Friday you can either stay at our facilities on campus or camp at the location. Either way bring a sleeping bag or cot if you don’t plan on renting a hotel room.

The following teams have expressed high interest so far…

1.       UA Baja

2.       UCLA Baja

3.       San Jose State

4.       UC Irvine

5.       UC Davis

6.       ASU

7.       Cal Poly SLO

8.        BYU

We are still waiting to hear back from other schools. If you know someone at another Baja SAE school, please give them my email (agentil.unlvrebelracing@gmail.com) and see if they would be interested in joining.

The tech inspection will be simple for this event. We will get together a few team leaders and captains to check all the driver restraints and safety equipment. So make sure those are in working condition and up to date on your car. We will also look for the head (6”) and body (3”) clearance required per SAE rules.

We will be charging (roughly) a team entry fee of $65 and $15 per every car that races. This is subject to change depending on attendance and pricing of utilities (currently reviewing pricing options, more information to come soon). We look not to make a profit but to cover the wear and tear on the property/equipment, paramedic fee, food services and bathroom rentals.

This will be a one day show on Saturday giving you guys and gal’s ample time to get home. We will start around 9 am and run till 7 pm (dusk). The day will consist of 4 featured events; endurance, maneuverability and two special secret events! With each 1st place finisher receiving a winner’s trophy.

If you have any questions, comments, ideas or concerns we are open to hearing back from you. This is our first year trying to host this, so please bear with us. We would like for this event to grow like a Midnight Mayhem or Winter Baja.

Thanks,

-Adam Gentil.
