We are looking to get a new engine and we are wondering if a http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200631827_200631827 - 19N132-0035-F1 engine will work, since we can't find any major differences between the ones listed in the rule book. B2.5 Engine Requirement and Restrictions To provide a uniform basis for the performance events, all vehicles must use the same engine: a stock four cycle, air cooled, Briggs & Stratton OHV Intek Model. The following Briggs & Stratton engines are the only acceptable engines for the 2016 Baja SAE competitions: No Exceptions 

Baja Acceptable Engines 
20S232 0036-F1 
205432 0536-E9 
205332 0536-E9 
205332 0536-B1 

The required engine must remain completely stock in all ways. 
NOTE: Blueprinting (reworking an engine to a manufacturer’s exact specifications) is considered to be a modification and prohibited.  

FOR 2017 A NEW BRIGGS AND STRATTON ENGINE WILL BE REQUIRED, PRIOR ENGINES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTABLE

Last I heard is that more information will be available about it after the competition season is over.  Should have a similar power and torque curve from what was mentioned at the Tennessee competition.

They had the physical engine at tennessee so I assume it will make its rounds to California and Rochester as well. From what I saw it looked almost identical, but with some electronics on it. Maybe a kill switch built onto the engine? I didn't have time to look at it for more than a minute.

Interestingly, according to the specs on a site I found, the max RPM is 3600, and according to the HP curve that Briggs has on the link above it hits 10HP at 3600. I assume that means that next year we will have a slightly diffrent max RPM to tune to.

"Net power values are taken with exhaust and air cleaner installed whereas gross power values are collected without these attachments. Actual gross engine power will be higher than net engine power and is affected by, among other things, ambient operating conditions and engine-to-engine variability."

Concerned about that low oil shutdown. Could be a problem on long uphills, or of jumps, depending on how sensitive it is. the one in our generator is extremely sensitive so even moving it while its running can cause problems.

I'd be concerned about that low oil shutdown too... I wonder if the rules will update to cover it.

Otherwise I could see teams "hotwiring" it for competition, and justly so.

On the other hand, that might've saved a few of our scored cylinders.
