Does anyone happen to have an inventor model of the Briggs engine. It would be greatly appreciated.

No Problem. It's kind of a goofy model to deal with, but its accurate. (should be, it's from B&S)

rj: Yes, it is. I put it on 3DContentCentral so it can be downloaded in many formats.

I always meant to take that engine and simplify it, cut out everything but external surfaces, that thing slowed down our model really badly. I usually kept it on a separate layer and turned it off unless i needed it.

Has anyone else found that the bolt pattern on the bottom of the engine used for mounting is not accurate in the CAD model?  We have had engine mounting issues for a few years and finally tracked it down to being an issue with the CAD model.

What kind of mounting problems did you have? Our clutch center to center was off by ~.060, but we're pretty sure it was a manufacturing error on our part, things like that happen pretty easily when you have to rush.

I've milled the engine mount holes dimensioned exactly as modeled. Bolts dropped right in.

How accurate is the model that Jump Buggie posted? Anyone seen any discrepancies?

Between the New engine we received this past year, the muffler is a bit different and the air filter housing is different. other than that, nothing that I can see.

It would be really cool for someone to see if a place would laser scan an engine as a sponsorship activity for all teams...

I think we were looking into having a place do that for us.  If we end up doing so I can see about sharing the model.

We just had the newer model motor white light scanned. I'm filling in the holes now but so far this is what we have. I will share with everyone when I finish it.

Rollie,

Do you think you could do one with the gas tank off? We might do a laser scanned model this year and post it too, but your white light scanned model looks great.

I don't think I'll be able to get this scanned again but when I finish up the model I'll make a second one with that part missing. It will be simple geometry but fairly accurate.

I have gone through our model to fill in as many holes as possible. I have added in all of the critical bolt geometry and reference planes so that it is a usable model. Some of the hole filling caused some of the parts to combine, like under the gas tank and hoses, but all of the critical geometry and the outer profile are correct. As of now I don't have a model of the motor without the gas tank but you should be able to cut that out of the model.

How do you open it in SolidWorks? I tried and it's blank.

I am not sure how to do it in Solidworks. I will try opening it in inventor and saving it as a different file type for you.
