Dear Baja Teams,

You are formally invited to Michigan Technological University's 2012 Winter Baja Competition. The competition will take place on Saturday, February 18th, 2012, in Lake Linden (15 minutes from the Michigan Tech campus). Two 90 minute endurance races will be held as well as a dynamic event. Winter Baja is a great chance to test your cars for 2012 competitions or simply get drive time in an environment not found at many other events!

Last year we implemented a few new features for Winter Baja, including our online payment system and electronic transponders for lap counting. We are proud to say that both were met with high acclaim and will be returning this year. Entrance fee will be $100 for the first car and will include dinner and trophies following the event. Bring as many cars as you want; each additional car is $50. Registration is open until February 18th; payments must be received by then if arrangements have not been made otherwise. There will be a $10 discount for registering earlier than February 5th. We will cover the cost of the transponder rental for your first vehicle, with a $30 rental fee for each additional lap counter you wish to use. A $150 deposit check for each transponder (including the complimentary one) will be requested on competition day and returned upon completion of the event.

Registration can be completed at our online store: http://bit.ly/WinterBaja2012

Restrictions
• For safety reasons we will be doing technical inspections
• Vehicles must conform to 2002 or newer SAE rules
• All vehicles must use the standard 10 HP Briggs & Stratton engine
• Stock mufflers must be used (the race is being run in the town of Lake Linden and we do not want to annoy our hosts)
• No studded tires or skis
• Flags are required, but brake lights are not
• Clutch covers, chain guards, and a working kill switch are required.
• Safety gear such as seat belts, helmets, neck brace, and wrist restraints must be worn at all times in the vehicle.
• Governor settings must not exceed 3800 rpm

Please notify us as soon as possible if you wish to attend this year’s event. Please inform us how many cars your team will be bringing, an estimate of how many people you will be bringing, and how large your trailer is (if applicable) so we can adequately plan for the track and banquet.

This year looks like another great year for snow, so if you’re even considering attending the event we advise making hotel reservations immediately. Houghton is a popular tourist destination for skiing and snowmobiling, not to mention the event’s proximity to our local Winter Carnival, so hotels will be limited. There are 20 rooms at the local Super 8 reserved under MTU Baja. These rooms are only reserved until January 2nd. You can always cancel the rooms, most within 24 hours notice. Contact information for local hotels are listed on the second page of this invitation.

For the latest updates and media, be sure to check out the Winter Baja 2012 Facebook page:

Also, if you have graduated or are otherwise not the correct contact for your team, please pass this on to the appropriate contact. Please feel free to e-mail us with any other questions or uncertainties.

Thank you,

Grant Cox

If you've never been to a Winter Baja event (or have and want to re-live it), check out this video one of our members made of last year's competition:

Grant,

We were looking at bringing 5 cars this year to Winter Comp. I saw that there is a limit to only 4 cars per team on the registration page. Is this true or will we be able to bring all 5 cars?
