Everyone is invited to come participate in Millican Stampede! Date: August 27, 2011 Location: Millican OHV area (east of Bend, OR) Details: This event is being put on by a couple of us here at Oregon State (who is in no way associated with this event). There will be a tech session to make sure everyone stays safe. Race start will be staggered. Laps will be somewhere between 10-20 miles of hot, dezert pounding action. In true Baja form there will be check points set up around the course. Additionally, there will be two classes- Baja1 and Baja2. Baja1 is for "stock" BajaSAE vehicles while Baja2 is a "modified" class. Cost: Nothing. It's free! -Please read through all the rules and the schedule- Event Location and Schedule: Event Rules: Edited by tp - Jul/11/2011 at 7:46pm |

Do "motor mods" allow for swapped engines? (In other words, a non-Briggs?)

V-twin sounds reasonable for these cars...

Yeah... I had to make a rule so our V-Twin car could race. I'll expand on the rule later. I don't think Ninja bike engines would be very safe for racing.
Feel free to come talk to me at Illinois if you're interested.

Great, I've needed motivation to re-build the car in my garage. Only a 7 hr drive from Seattle. Saves me the trouble of putting together my own event. |

What will the safety check involve? My cars are from 2000 and 2004. No chain guards, missing body panels, and toggle kill switches. Both top finishers but generally old, no cracks in the roll cage. If I’ve got to fabricate something, I’m going to need a heads up. Plans to go V-twin on the 2004 car. |

Just give them a call, some motors don't come with mufflers etc.

So I'm writing the rules as we speak. Shouldn't be anything out of the ordinary but I just want to make sure everything is nice and kosher.

Our car has a 18hp Briggs V-Twin. It was far from "bolt-in". The main problem is many of the older V-Twin engines have tapered output shafts. Sure makes the car fun to drive though and the V-Twin / custom made glass pack (I had just finished remodeling my moms house so I had some extra fiberglass insulation sitting around) makes it sound way faster than it really is. May or may not have plans for a turbo setup.....

maybe a power to weight ratio would be better suited than a strict HP limit?

just thinking about the older/heavier cars that are more likely to make an appearance rather than a team bringing their crown jewel 300# car. Make it more fun for everyone

I was thinking along the lines of all engines have to be air cooled and either be sold by Northen Tool or meet a CC limit.

ever hear of the waterbuffalo? suzuki gt 750? i may or may not have a couple of the motors in my possession, along with one of the best 2-stroke builders int he country a few doors down... heh i bet we could make it peak at 120ish...
anyways, as much fun as we could have with larger/ more powerful motors, we still need to keep it safe( boo)

Wait.... Arlan Lehman moved next to you? I though he was still living here in Portland....
Safety is my primary concern. I don't want this turning into Huckfest 2011 where the Park Rangers shut it down in a matter of minutes. Mostly I don't want to be responsible if someone gets hurt. So "unlimited" engines are still going to be limited.

My 10HP entry from 2000. It has a #1 on the back.
I plan on getting an 18HP V-twin for my 2004 car. Right now it has a #33 on the side but I'd rather change that to a #3.

Space alien magic!!! The GF will drive the 2000 car. Don’t want her to get bored. The real trick will be hauling both cars on a 5’X8’ trailer. |

I bet you could do it, especially if the 2000 car has a #1 on the back. I once fit our baja car, a 100cc wheeler and a 250cc dirt bike in the bed of a short bed w/ a tool box |

We took our ONE car to multiple races on my 5x8 mowing trailer, and it was a squeeze. I'd back one on all the way, and drive the other up onto the first one as much as possible... or find a truck to pull the trailer with and put one in the bed... or rent a u-haul. |

Akron- I need a little bit more info from you
I've fit two cars in my 5x10 but thats with putting them sideways and hanging the wheels off one side. The other option is to try to put them end to end and hang the back car off the trailer with some 2x8s or something. Done that with quads before.

U-Haul is probably my best option. No time for major trailer renovations but I think I could probably bolt the ramp down level with the rest of the trailer for an extra 4’. |

with such a light duty trailer as that I wouldn't risk it. That would be beyond my sketchiness threshold for sure. Not to mention your tounge weight would actually be pulling the bumper of that Fusion up...

What about disassembling one car and only putting the frame (+pedals, seat, steering) on the roof? That shouldnt exceed it (maybe?) and the rest can go in the trunk/trailer...

So, I went to go get an ATV permit for the cars and the chick at the DMV said I have to get it inspected by the police and VIN# assigned etc. Is that sounding familiar???

That sounds familiar to me. Are you trying to get a Washington or Oregon permit? Have you looked into getting an ORV permit? To me that seems like the better route than an ATV since our cars are custom tube chassis, plus I don't think you have to deal with a vin # when you got ORV. All the EBD's I know in Washington that take their cars to the dunes or to Tillamook only rock ORV permits. |

I specifically asked for a Washington ORV permit. Haven't found much online about how to get one. Keep finding websites about the new "Discovery Pass" for parking the tow vehicle but coming up dry on the ORV permit. The DMV gave me a # to call. Maybe I'll have more luck with that. |

Are you getting this permit so you can legally attend the Millican? Here is some info I dug up, I'll do some more digging when I get a chance...
