Bahahaha! Did someone try to run multiple enginers?

20.2 Engine – Clarify - The vehicle must have four (4) or more wheels not in a straight line. The vehicle can only use one Briggs and Stratton engine.

Rule 31.2.1 Elements of the Roll Cage

Is it just me, or did they loosen up the rules about material wall thickness?  I recall that a lot more frame members were 1x.120" or equivalent last year.

That rule refers to
Lateral Diagonal Bracing (LBD)
Lower Frame Side (LFS)
Side Impact Member (SIM)
Fore/Aft Bracing (FAB)
Front Lateral Cross Member (FLC)
Under Seat Member (USM)
Any tube that is used to mount the safety belts

Rule 31.5 (1"x.120") still applies to:
Rear Roll Hoop (RRH) Rule 31.2.2
Roll Hoop Overhead Members (RHO) Rule 31.2.4
Front Bracing Members (FBM) Rule 31.2.7
Lateral Cross Member (LC) Rules 31.2.4 and 31.2.5

My favorite Clap

21.4.11 Exhaust Pipe – Durability Required- Exhaust System – Durability Required
The exhaust pipe and muffler must be completely intact and operational throughout the event. Any car found to have a loose or leaking exhaust system will be removed from competition until the issue can be corrected. If the muffler becomes loose, in either relocated or stock position, the vehicle will be black flagged and it will need to be fixed before continuing.

I thought the 1" x .120" wall rule was applied to more members last year as well.  Not complaining though, our frame needs a diet anyway

Ha!  We hope to cut 100+ lbs out of our car this year, mostly out of the frame and drivetrain systems.     I'm glad that I read that rule right.   I'm pretty excited since this will make my job easier.

EDIT: We are not bringing a 620 lb, 108" long car to competition this year.  Our current (08-09) tube chassis+Al firewall+ Al body panels weighs 252lbs.  Ha ha ha.

John: WOW!  What thickness aluminum do you use for your body panels?  I'm guessing your chassis is mild steel?

.024" aluminum sheet.  Every tube on our 08-09 car is 1"x.125" 1020, so that's where the weight is.  Oh, and we have a 14 Ga. sheet metal floor with .303" stainless rod reinforcement.  That too.   At least we couldn't break it if we tried.  That tree at Auburn was no match for our chassis. Big smile  Hit it square on and no damage.

Look at it this way, we can have a 20% weight reduction for the design report. Thumbs Up

we also had a 20% weight reduction last year! dropped from 440 to 355 lbs! Wink
I guess we won't be able to make it happen this year, even with the new softened rules...
